Country teachers rally for more pay and better benefits

Union members rallied Sunday in Springfield for more pay and better benefits for teachers, saying the pay cuts will make school work less enjoyable for them.

Many members of the state Professional Institute of Education, an umbrella group of more than a dozen schools, planned to gather on the lawn of the governor’s mansion in Springfield at 7:45 a.m. for the annual meeting of the Professional Institute of Education.
